What to Expect

Visiting a new church can feel overwhelming—so here’s exactly what to expect when you walk through the door at Northern Light Baptist Church.

We meet at the Yukon Inn, in a comfortable, laid-back setting that reflects life in the North. There’s no pressure, no fancy dress code, and no awkward moments—just a welcoming place where you can come as you are.

When You Arrive

Come on in to the Yukon Inn and check the signage for the meeting room information. We generally meet in the Fireside Room on Sundays at 1:00 PM and Wednesdays in the Alder Room at 7:00 PM. Once you come in to the meeting room, here’s what you will experience!

A Comfortable Space

Our meeting room is set up with tables and chairs, so you won’t have to awkwardly hold your belongings. Whether you bring a purse, packsack, or coffee, there’s a place to set it down.

Plenty of Room

It’s a big space, so you won’t have to sit right up against anyone. Feel free to sit wherever you’re comfortable.

Come As You Are

People dress like northerners dress. Wear what you normally would, and don’t worry about “Sunday best.”

During the Service

While you’re seated comfortably, here’s what you can expect throughout the church services:

Music You’ll Recognize

We sing old hymns, like the ones you may remember from church long ago. The music is accompanied by a stringed instrument, played in a lower key so it’s easy to sing along.

Fellowship Time

Between the music and the preaching, we take a 10-minute break to stretch, visit, check messages, or just sit and reflect. You’re free to move around, chat with an old friend, or use the washroom.

Easy-to-Follow Sermons

At your seat, you’ll find a simple paper handout with nearly every Bible verse used in the message, so you won’t have to flip through pages trying to keep up. Feel free to take it home—it even has our contact info.

Preaching for the North

Our preacher, Steve Donley, has been in the North since 1989, so the messages are distinctly northern, deeply biblical, and easy to understand.

And here's what we don't do...

No Pressure to Give

We don’t pass an offering plate. If you want to give, there’s an offering basket on a table—but really, don’t worry about it.

No Awkward Moments

No one will corner you, make you stand up, or embarrass you. You’re welcome to come and go quietly if that’s what makes you most comfortable.

We’re truly happy when you come, but we won’t make a big fuss about it. Just know that whether you’re visiting once or looking for a church home, you are always welcome here.

Still have questions?

We’d love to help! Reach out anytime through our Contact Page or talk to Pastor Donley when you visit.

You don’t have to wonder what to expect—now you know. We hope to see you soon!
