A Vision for a Church Home
Northern Light Baptist Church began with a simple but powerful vision: to create a church where Indigenous peoples could grow in their faith while embracing the worship styles and customs familiar to them. Pastor Steve Donley, a Bible-believing preacher with over 30 years of ministry experience in the Western Arctic, saw a need for a church where people could hear God’s Word in a way that resonated with their hearts and heritage.
With a deep love for the North and a calling to serve its people, Pastor Donley planted Northern Light Baptist Church as a place of community, faith, and belonging. His decades of ministry among Indigenous peoples have shaped his preaching, making the truths of Scripture accessible and meaningful to all who come—whether they are from the land, the city, or beyond.
Meet Pastor Steve Donley
Pastor Donley’s journey in ministry began over three decades ago when he was called to serve in the Northwest Territories. Immersing himself in the dual cultures of the Western Arctic, he spent years sharing the Gospel, walking alongside Indigenous families, and learning how faith and culture intertwine. His preaching is clear, compassionate, and rooted in the unchanging truth of God’s Word, reaching hearts across generations and backgrounds.
At Northern Light Baptist Church, Pastor Donley’s passion remains the same: to teach and preach the Bible in a way that helps people know Christ personally and grow in their faith. He welcomes all who seek truth, hope, and a church home where they can worship in a way that feels natural and meaningful.
