What We Believe

At Northern Light Baptist Church, we are more than just a building—we are a family of believers seeking to honour God in our lives. Our faith is rooted in the teachings of the Bible, and we hold to the doctrines historically embraced by Baptists.

Independent and Bible-Governed

We believe that the church should be free from political, governmental, or denominational control. As an independent, unaffiliated, and self-governing church, we operate through the support and guidance of our local congregation, relying solely on God’s Word as our authority.
Acts 5:29Then Peter and the other apostles answered and said, We ought to obey God rather than men.

Salvation by Grace Through Faith

Salvation is a gift from God, given by grace through faith in Jesus Christ alone.
Ephesians 2:8-9For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God: Not of works, lest any man should boast.

It cannot be bought, earned, or bestowed by any human.
1 Timothy 2:5For there is one God, and one mediator between God and men, the man Christ Jesus.
Acts 4:12Neither is there salvation in any other: for there is none other name under heaven given among men, whereby we must be saved.

True salvation is not simply repeating a prayer or performing a religious act but is a personal decision to trust in Christ.
Romans 10:9-13That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved. For with the heart man believeth unto righteousness; and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation. For the scripture saith, Whosoever believeth on him shall not be ashamed. For there is no difference between the Jew and the Greek: for the same Lord over all is rich unto all that call upon him. For whosoever shall call upon the name of the Lord shall be saved.

The Bible: Our Final Authority

We believe that the King James Version (KJV) is the preserved Word of God, and it is used in all of our services. Psalm 12:6-7The words of the Lord are pure words: as silver tried in a furnace of earth, purified seven times. Thou shalt keep them, O Lord, thou shalt preserve them from this generation for ever.

Baptism & The Lord’s Supper

Baptism is for those who have personally placed their faith in Jesus Christ. It is done by full immersion as a public testimony of salvation and obedience to Christ.
Acts 8:36-39And as they went on their way, they came unto a certain water: and the eunuch said, See, here is water; what doth hinder me to be baptized? And Philip said, If thou believest with all thine heart, thou mayest. And he answered and said, I believe that Jesus Christ is the Son of God. And he commanded the chariot to stand still: and they went down both into the water, both Philip and the eunuch; and he baptized him. And when they were come up out of the water, the Spirit of the Lord caught away Philip, that the eunuch saw him no more: and he went on his way rejoicing.

The Lord’s Supper (Communion) is a symbolic act, remembering Christ’s sacrifice for us.
Luke 22:19-20And he took bread, and gave thanks, and brake it, and gave unto them, saying, This is my body which is given for you: this do in remembrance of me. Likewise also the cup after supper, saying, This cup is the new testament in my blood, which is shed for you.

The Return of Christ

We believe that Jesus will return to take believers to be with Him.

1 Thessalonians 4:15-17For this we say unto you by the word of the Lord, that we which are alive and remain unto the coming of the Lord shall not prevent them which are asleep. For the Lord himself shall descend from heaven with a shout, with the voice of the archangel, and with the trump of God: and the dead in Christ shall rise first: Then we which are alive and remain shall be caught up together with them in the clouds, to meet the Lord in the air: and so shall we ever be with the Lord.

After a seven-year tribulation, He will establish His millennial reign on earth.

Revelation 20:1-6And I saw an angel come down from heaven, having the key of the bottomless pit and a great chain in his hand. And he laid hold on the dragon, that old serpent, which is the Devil, and Satan, and bound him a thousand years, And cast him into the bottomless pit, and shut him up, and set a seal upon him, that he should deceive the nations no more, till the thousand years should be fulfilled: and after that he must be loosed a little season. And I saw thrones, and they sat upon them, and judgment was given unto them: and I saw the souls of them that were beheaded for the witness of Jesus, and for the word of God, and which had not worshipped the beast, neither his image, neither had received his mark upon their foreheads, or in their hands; and they lived and reigned with Christ a thousand years. But the rest of the dead lived not again until the thousand years were finished. This is the first resurrection. Blessed and holy is he that hath part in the first resurrection: on such the second death hath no power, but they shall be priests of God and of Christ, and shall reign with him a thousand years.

Supporting Gospel Ministry

We actively support preachers who plant, rescue, and strengthen churches around the world, especially those reaching Indigenous peoples in circumpolar regions. This support is entirely from designated, free-will offerings given by our church family.
Acts 14:23And when they had ordained them elders in every church, and had prayed with fasting, they commended them to the Lord, on whom they believed.

Worship & Leadership

Music – Our worship music is conservative in style, focusing on biblical principles of praise. Ephesians 5:19Speaking to yourselves in psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing and making melody in your heart to the Lord.

Preaching & Teaching – Our pastor leads the worship services and invites others to preach or teach as he sees fit, following biblical guidance. Ephesians 4:11-12And he gave some, apostles; and some, prophets; and some, evangelists; and some, pastors and teachers; For the perfecting of the saints, for the work of the ministry, for the edifying of the body of Christ.
